NATIONAL ENQUIRER IS HONORED FOR COVERAGE OF DOMESTIC ABUSE

National Enquirer is the proud recipient of the 'Step Forward for Haven House' Award of Excellence. The Enquirer was awarded this honor for its oustanding reporting on the issues of domestic violence and abuse. In particular, the October 24, 1995 Enquirer was the first to detail Nicole Brown Simpson's diary which told of years of horrible mental, physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her husband, O.J. physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her husband, O.J. The Enquirer has been lauded by domestic violence experts for [Image] keeping the spotlight on this national problem throughout the media circus surrounding Simpson's murder trial. The award ceremony took place in Beverly Hills, California on June 1st, 1996, and was sponsored by Haven House.. Haven House created the nation's first battered women's shelter, and now is the clearinghouse for educating the public about the crime of domestic violence. Moderator for the event was Dr. Susan Forward, therapist, instructor, and author of many best-selling books dealing with child abuse and destructive relationships. Panelists included Barbara Cochran Berry, The Enquirer's Steve Coz, actress Mariette Hartley, O.J. Prosecutor William Hodgeman, Attorney Harvey Levin, and legal analyst Manuel Medrano.
