A Database Review of Warren Commission Documents
Introduction
The purpose of this document is to provide a database review of numbered Warren Commission Documents (CD).
The Commission formally established a list of documents numbering 1 - 1555. (Document number 939 was never assigned to a specific document.) Many documents have associated sub-documents and are numbered accordingly. There is no uniform coding of sub-documents, but they generally follow an alpha-numeric sub-order, such as 81, 81a, 81b,etc. Accordingly there are a total of 2539 separate numbered document and sub-documents in the database.
The Commission received documents from sixty-three separate identifiable sources. The Commission itself originated two documents and thirty-two have not been traced to a specific source.
This project was undertaken to permit identifying, as groups, documents and their source. The printed public record, represented by the Warren Report and its accompanying 26 volumes of Hearings and Testimony, does not provide this information. Accordingly, there has been, as part of the public record, no means to determine the manner and flow of information acquired by the Commission through its documents and their sources. This database begins to address that deficiency.
